Wasn't quite sure where to put this since I've seen folks using sand in the water pans of MES and other electric units as well as gassers....anyhow....

I want to give the sand in the pan a try.

Quick question:  Did you guys 'burn in' your sand before throwing any food in the box or did you just toss in the sand, cover with HD foil and start smoking meat?

Thanks in advance!

Make sure you buy playground sand, don't just go to the beach & dig up a bucket. Home Depot sells it. No need to burn it in, just fill the pan up half way with the sand a little higher on the sides so the grease will run to the middle & cover it with a couple of layers of foil.

Thanks Al!.... yeah, even though I could get a bunch of beach sand in a second... I picked up a bag of play sand at the local hardware place...I know how much salt and other chemicals are in beach sand.....although... beach sand might lend a nice aroma to a fish smoke!

OK, pan is now loaded with sand... does anyone want 99/100th of a 50 pound bag of play sand?  Just pick up the shipping and it's yours.....

Hey Al, since this is my first go with sand in the pan...you don't put water on top of the foil/sand do you?  I just saw someone post that on another thread... I thought the sand TOOK the place of water... set me straight brother....

Thanks!
