SAMS MES vs 30" model

After the well documented trouble getting my first MES from SAMS up to temperature, Masterbuilt asked me to send it back in to be tested and said they would replace the unit. Well I get an email back last night from Masterbuilt saying they are going to send me a check for what I paid for the unit so I can just replace it on my own which was great for me. My question is should I get another 40" from Sams or just go with the 30" model. Bass Pro still has the 30" on sale here in town. I just don't have a good feeling on the 40" since I had so much trouble getting it to heat up. I do like that it had so much more room in it though. Any thoughts/suggestions?
 
Go to Sam's and buy the 3 year warrantee for 30+ and you will have 3 years, you can always return the unit to them.

Btw I have the new 40' with no problems.
 
I also like my 40" Sam's MES very much. It's nice to have the extra room if you need it, and even though I didn't think it mattered, I have to say I really like having the window. It somehow makes the process much more enjoyable to peer in occasionally at your food while it's smoking. ...silly, I know.

I have not experienced any problems in having it come up to temp. That includes smoking a chicken at 250 for several hours, with a bump up to 265 at the end to crisp up the skin. However, I am in Arizona, so I don't have to deal with low ambient temps.

It's your call, but I vote "give the Sam's 40 another chance".

all i have is a 30" and wish every time i smoke that i had got a 40". i would think you just got a bad unit. I would get a 40"
 
Just my experience with both the 30 &40

Recovery on the 30 is a lot better.

Maintaining temp in cold weather is better on the 30

Since the heater is almost always on with the 40 it is
much better at smoke production. The 30 will give you
gaps in smoke production during its off cycles.

I enjoy them both and use them as the situation dictates.

I have the 40" Sams model, haven't had a problem at all. Reason I went with the 40" over getting the smaller unit is more room = more smoked product. Excellent suggestion on the extended warranty, although I don't have it.

We looked at the 30 at Bass Pro last night and decided we definitely like the 40 better. We bought the 3 year warranty on the last model so we have to work that out somehow getting that exchanged for a new 3 year warranty on the new unit. I'm sure Sams can work something out for us though. Thanks for all the advice.
 
I think you can still buy it, talk to them about the concerns.
 
Just bring it back and get another one.
