Good evening to my US smokers, good morning/afternoon to those outside of the country.

I'm new to SMF, but not to smoking.  I started with an offset smoker years ago but had to leave it behind when I moved from my rent house to an apartment.  After I got married and bought a house, we received a propane grill as a house warming gift.  I did my best to create smoke boxes to smoke chicken, ribs, or any foods that don't require long smokes, and it did okay, but was far from a valid replacement for a true smoker.

So, sometime last year I decided to build a UDS and I absolutely love it!  I've smoked what some have called the best pulled pork, St. Louis ribs, and whole chickens that people have ever eaten.  Doesn't mean I believe myself to be the top dawg smoker, but I never got these compliments while using my offset.  Just goes to show the surprising performance of a cheap, gigantic trash can.

I've got a very high chance of obtaining a Primo Oval Jr oven tomorrow and figured I'd come here to see what you guys thought.  At first, when I started looking into komados a year or so ago, I thought Primo Ovals and BGE were the only options.  Now, it seems like a new one is being introduced every week.  Vision, Akorn, Red Komado Kooker, etc.  It's becoming an overwhelming task just to read up on all the different options.  Just when I figured I've seen the last Google result for a new Komado, I read a post here or on another forum about a brand new Komado.

Anyway, I've been lurking here forever, but just now decided to sign up.  My real name is Ricky, I'm 30, a server engineer, a step-father to a wonderfully bright, witty, respectful and respected 7 year old daughter, a biological father to 6-week old twin boys, and a husband to an awesome, support, beautiful wife who, despite putting up with my smoking obsessions, refuses to eat anything else I smoke besides whole chicken and bacon bombs.  Whatever, her loss.

Some of you may remember me by the same screen name on another BBQ/cooking forum.  I don't know if there's any bad blood between the two, or if there are any rules against mentioning other forums, so I won't test the waters on my very first day.

If you know me from there, nice to see you again.  If this is our first time meeting, then the pleasure is all mine.

Longest intro ever?  I hope so.

Random tidbit:  Milk tastes better than water.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

You might want to check out Jeff's Free 5 day E-Course, it has great information to use no matter your skill level!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Welcome to the forums, Ricky, from another Oklahoman!  This is the best place I know for sharing ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of friendly and knowledgeable folks who really enjoy helping one another.  Just holler when you need anything, and someone here will have the answer.
