Rust on my cast iron rack.

    I've got rust on my cast iron rack in my side firebox smoker. 

    I can use the main chamber for direct charcoal grilling and it must have gotten too wet this winter while making burgers.

    I don't think a wire brush is going to do the trick?  I need to get that off of there, get some oil or fat on there and re-season.

    How in the heck should I do this?

    Give it a good scrubbing with some simple green or CLR - you don't need to get it down to shinny metal, just any loose or heavy rust. Then fire up your smoker and once it is hot rub it down with some melted lard. Let it cook at around 275° for about two hours then repeat the lard process and let it cook another 2 hrs.
