Hi All Does Royal Oak/Red Bag add smoke flavor to the meat,or is it just for heat?

I'm farily new to using my COS been going with 1/2 Kingsford Blue & 1/2 Royal Oak lump.

Was just wondering if a went with 100% Royal Oak..Would I still have to add wood?

Thanks Dan

Yes, you will get some smoke from lump but most of us supplement with wood or another smoke source such as the AMNS or AMNPS.

Many of us prefer lump for smoking.  Many others, especially with upright smokers like briquettes.

I use briquettes for grilling.  Many others have their methods.

A little experimentation will determine how you like to do it.

Good luck and good smoking.

All you need is just a couple of chunks of your favorite wood to get good flavor .Watch out for Mesquite it can be a little strong . Check out Chef Central out on Rt 17,they have all their BBQ stuff out now .Pretty interesting. Was there last week . I Used to live in Paramus Back in the mid 60's off of Midland Ave by Paramus Rd. Class of 66.Lived there till I got drafted in 68. Moved up to Sussex Cnty.

Hi Just checked Home Depot's flyer..Kingsfords Blue Charcoal 2 -20lbs bags for $12.28, might have to stock up!!

I'm on Forrest Ave.

THanks Dan

Good deal on that Kingsfords Blue.  Costco has Kingsfords competition briquettes 36lbs for about $17.  47 cents a lb.

Hi I don't belong to Costco..Wish I did. I have Restaurant Depot for my meat supplies.

I just might  be going mostly with wood in my COS. Haven't tried the wood yet,if the wood works ,then I'll just start with charcoal and add 12" wood splits, as needed.

Maratian I saw the add for Lowe's

Thanks Dan
