Why non authentic? I didn't bother looking for poppy seed buns (but they are steamed, my dills are mini so they aren't in one piece, using pepperoncini vs sport peppers, no neon relish (it's home made) and I didn't steam the dogs...they are fire roasted so more like they call "char-dogs" in Chicago.

I only used 1/2 of a pair of Octoforks because you can fit 2 hotdogs on each set of tines. I gave them a spin until they were a little split plus good and nice n fire roasted then built the dogs!

The pics will show you the progression of the cook. Doing dogs this way over a fire is a blast and I love to see them baste each other!

    Thanks for stopping in!

Oh yes and no,  I love the skinless good cut varieties like this and Hebrew National....there's some they make up in Michigan (gotta think of the name) but they are outstanding.

Koegels I'm guessing. We normally eat cheapies but if we go out there's a couple of good dog places around the one just isn't open enough.

It varies by the area of the country you are in, but Nathan's 1/4 pound dogs is what they have at all or our area Sam's Clubs up front in the grill/pizza area.  That version is on a potato bun too.  It used to be the only way to buy those 4:1 dogs was in a case quantity of like 96 dogs for around $110.00.  We used to buy them for office cookouts (for about 400 people so we needed volume).  I always liked them, but again it varies by area of the country as to what brand they carry in the 4:1 size at Sam's Club.

We had a hot wing place where I used to work and the owners were from upstate New York.  They had Sahlen's dogs and I really liked the taste of those.  Can't find them anywhere around here (Georgia) and that shop closed when the owners moved to the beach.  Never saw them any where else.

    EDIT.....

Holy Crap!!!!! I Just googled Sahlen's hot dogs and there is a seller on Amazon who is selling a 3 pound pack for $90.00.  I guess they must be pretty much in demand outside the normal Sahlen service area.  On further examination it does include the FedEx next day air delivery in the price, but still..... $90???????

Woo hoo!!!! I just found a shop in my area that is not overly far from the office that uses Sahlen's dogs.  It will be on my list of lunch stops next week!  And they have a deli in house that sells Sahlen's packs for cookouts at home as well.  Appears to be the only place in Atlanta.

Thanks Adam!  The fire wasn't too hot so they had time to get some good smoke... maybe cooking 350* or so ?

I like Nathan's or Hebrew nation for store bought dogs. My mother in law gets me Kronski's from Wyoming. They are excellent.

I love Hebrew National always have. yummy

Case how'd you like the spinner?  I could see spinning 3 sets worth of spiral dogs (48 total) when we do our block party... the kids love those things. Well I guess the adults do too!  They'll get a kick out of watching that many spin

    That's quite the contraption.

I don't think we've ever needed 48 dogs! Burgers yes, dogs no!

I do have a way to spin 16 burgers...so it'd have to be done in 3 cooks but it would be worth it!  lol
