Got a Mes30 trying to talk the wife into the AMAZEPellet thing. Put a call into them to call me back but nothing yet. Done a few smokes since I bought it on Black Friday @ BPS. I think the Amazing pellet contraption should work for what Im looking for. My MES isnt quite giving me the bark or the smoke from the chips i thrive for.Just switched over to pellets & the smoke from them seems alot better.

Hello and Welcome to our addiction.  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have, and pictures help a bunch.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  Check out Jeff’s 5 day smoking E-Course ( link below ) that will help you get started.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

I too am new to the MES 30 and because of the rave reviews on this site, I bought it and it's worth every penny. Especially with everyone's busy life, it's nice to be able to set it and forget it. Don't get me wrong, I still smoke with both charcoal and propane, but it's nice to have great smoked food without having to add coals or wood every hour. Buy it of you can! You won't regret it.

That's Great !!

Glad to see you got past the few posts that say the MES is a terrible smoker.

The Gen #2 has given the MES a bad name, in making some people think they're All bad.

Thanks guys. Got some spare ribs gettin ready to go in. Bear, you mention Gen 2 being terrible. My thoughts are Gen 2 is after Gen 1. Which means Gen 2 is the latest and greatest with all the tweeks made to it from a Gen 1. I got mine on Black Friday @ BassPro for 199.00 with a free stand. Soooo? Do I have a Gen 2?

Well, that's a Gen #2.

I didn't actually say it was terrible----That was a small handful of guys who said "ALL" MES Smokers are terrible.

You would think it would be better , but instead of tweaking the Gen #1 to make it better, they made some stupid changes.

The biggest of which is the slanted drip plate in the bottom that traps heat to the right and causes the right side to be much hotter than the left side.

Also the top exhaust positioned on the side creates a backwind problem that the Gen #1 top exhaust did not.

There has also been all kinds of problems with the controls in the front.

You could be one of the lucky ones who claim to have a good functioning Gen #2. I'm hoping they are not just thinking that, because they haven't really used them long enough to know about the big differences in temp from one place to another.

There is also an air flow problem that makes it harder to keep an AMNPS going, which is IMHO the best way to smoke with an electric smoker.

Best of luck, and I hope yours is one that works better than the rest.

Hahah Bear, I was unclear in my post. I was talking about the great reviews for the AMNPS. However, this site did help me out because I had always read that the MES 1st generation was the way to go. Found one on craigslist for $60 and couldn't pass it up. The MES combined with the AMNPS makes 20 hour smokes possible with a 19 month old. On busy days I can set it and forget it and not have to add wood or coals every hour. It lowers the probability of my wife killing me for spending more time with the smoker than the family haha

Yup I knew exactly what you meant. It was I who was unclear:

I meant I was glad you listened to the hundreds of Rave reviews of the Awesome Gen #1, and the AMNPS, instead of listening to the few people who like to say "ALL MES are Bad", because of a number of Gen #2 complaints.

There aren't many Gen #1 owners who aren't either Happy or Thrilled with their MES. (Myself included)

Yeah, the MES and the AMNPS are a perfect marriage. Just pull the chip loader and tray out about a inch or so and it smokes away! I haven't had any problems that weren't caused by my own stupidity haha. Kind of jealous of your 40 though. Hate cutting those ribs.
