I recently picked up a Brinkmann two-door vertical charcoal smoker off of the curb from someone cleaning out their garage.  I don't ever pick stuff up off of curbs, but glad I did. This is my first smoker ever and I have become hooked on smoking ever since.  So far I have smoked a bunch of chicken and a couple of pork butts, but only in the cold.  My experience before now has included only cooking in warm weather on a gas grill, so to say I am a rookie to this is an understatement.  My limited smoking knowledge has come from a ton of reading via Google searches, which ultimately led me to seeing this forum over and over, so I decided to join.
