Nice Wolf...I thought it looked like a Traeger but wasn't sure with the lid up.  That Ortech controller will make a big difference.  Be sure to show it off with some qview when you can!

Hey bbqhead...those FEC's are sure nice.  I've had envy for those rigs for a long time...unfortunately they're beyond my budget.  If I could save enough coins, I'd like to maybe upgrade to a PG500.  Maybe one of these days...

Well since I tend to be a little on the lazy side ... I bought a Traeger Lil' Tex smoker and have been very pleased so far. At this point I have smoked (reverse seared) some Rib Eyes, 6 racks of baby backs, 2 pork butts, 3 whole chickens, 1 whole turkey, and 2 briskets that have all turned out great. Only hiccup Ive had was with pork chops. But I think Ill do better with them on the next go round.

Smoke it up in here !!

Hi, all new to the Pellet Smoker, so go gently on me!!!

Built it up last might before the Rain started, broke my heart spending that much money then putting it out in the rain!

Thought I'd get a jump start........ordering the Rec Tec tomorrow. Option will be 2nd rack and smoker cover. I'll see about the searing grills. I did some work for a friend of mine that reviews barbecue equipment and he had me modified a set of them. Not sure if he has a source for them cheaper.

I have 2 Pellet Pro grills one is the 969" and one smaller @ 620" both equipped with Cold Smoke Generators

There was a learning curve with the control but once you master it you can really "set it and forget it"

Dennis is a great guy who will answer any questions any time He returned a call from me on a Sunday during a cook when I was first was learning and had a question

and he stands behind his product 100%

Great Product / Great Guy

Let me start off by saying I have a Rec Tec.

But it really makes me wonder how good they really are, all I see is "great customer service" if the product is really that great you shouldn't need customer service.

Don't get me wrong I like mine, but I don't have one of the ones that will go to 500° in 20 minutes like a lot of people, heck mine wouldn't get there in an hour and a half until I swapped in a faster auger motor, and it still takes a long time. Unless I take out the drip pan and put the other diffuser I have in and use the grill grates. Mine is a year old, have used it a lot sometimes 4 or 5 times a week, it is rare that it doesn't get used at least once or twice a week even in the winter. Has anything broken, not yet. But I have tried to get the high temp issues resolved but still not corrected, I gave up and decided it just isn't made to do that.

Sorry to hear you're still having problems getting to high temps, Dave.  I know you've been less than satisfied with that aspect of your Rec Tec for a long time.  Your troubles seem like the perfect chance to test RT's great customer service.  If they really strive to make every owner a satisfied customer, I can't help but believe that if they couldn't solve your problem, they'd do whatever it takes to make it right for you...whether that was replacement parts, a replacement grill, or as a last resort, a full refund.  Just a thought...

I grilled burgers on mine just last night @ 500* with the  grease tray out and the grill grates in (foil in the bottom of the barrel to catch any dripping grease).  With that setup, mine gets up to 500 in about 10 minutes most of the time...and I can't remember it ever taking longer than 20 minutes to get there.

Red,

Mine will do 500 if I take out the drip pan and the diffuser, I put on one of the charbroil diffusers it seems to help keep the ash from flying around, and use the grill grates. It is up to the 500 in 10 - 15 but all together no luck so far. I have spoke with Ron several times we replaced the motor and then I had to adjust the fan. That in itself make no sense to me. One should not have to adjust the fan it is not made to be adjustable, all the barrels are the same the fans assuming they are made by he same manufacturer should be done to spec so that the blades are the correct depth when assembled.

I may give him another call but it probably isn't much use since I swapped in the 2.0 RPM motor.

It works well for most cooking, and it will get to the mid 3's if I am doing chicken wings or something.

Had an odd occurrence tonight when I tried to shrimp, yesterday I did CS ribs at 215 and had smoke plenty of it for a change, today, same pellets and everything and not a wisp of smoke after it lit.

Thanks for invite Red

I got a char-griller and use lumberjack pellets in mine here in WI. One of my favorites was a pizza I had the other day. Made it taste like a brick oven one!
