Hello from Michigan. Starting out fresh with this smoking adventure. After much research and debate I purchased my first smoker. I chose the Weber smokey mountain 18.5 (WSM) It was a pretty easy decision based off of quality of product. Cost was one of the debates. (With my lovely wife) the other debate was with my brother in law over charcoal or electric. He uses an electric smoker but I have always used a charcoal grill and thought why change. I have heard great success from either. I'm just excited to start smoking some meat.
I seasoned the smoker today and am doing a butt next weekend. I'll post picks with the success or failure. Thanks for welcoming me.

Jeff, Welcome to SMF. That is a great smoker and you will enjoy it. Everyone raves about how easy they are to use. Looking forward to reading your posts and checking out your qview (pics)!

I just joined the forums today and I live near Ann Arbor. My wife got me a Cookshack 025 for my birthday last weekend.

I have seasoned it but have yet to smoke anything on it. I am coming from a Brinkman electric water smoker.

I live in Clinton Township and travel to Ann Arbor a couple times a month. My smoker was a birthday gift as well but I just got the wife's approval to get it for myself last week. I just joined up today as well. I have not seen the cook shack I will look it up. Hope your new smoker works out for you. Welcome to the SMF

Welcome from Canada, Jeff.

This is a great place to learn about smoking. I had mixed results until I found this forum. There is a lot of information in the posts and great people who are generous with their experience and knowledge.

I look forward to your posts and remember, we love pictures.
