RO "Chefs Best"..??

Anyone use this, or know anything about it?

Not sure if it's an all natural briquette like Stubbs or what..
 
I wish the bag wasn't soo big - as in I would like to "try" it, but what after a couple of fires I hate it? Just toss the rest?
 
I haven't yet.. I was using Kingsford for a while (about 3 weeks or so). I have since bought a couple bags of RO and Stubbs. I used RO Wednesday and Stubbs on Thursday.

The Stubbs is much cheaper around here than the RO..
 
I like it.. much better than Kingsford, IMO. Just haven't used it enough. Oh, and I used RO to smoke the cheese balls I made.

I reckon, though I may be wrong, the RO is a little hotter, and the Stubbs will last a bit longer. I haven't tested this yet, but will probably be able to test this early next week. Using about half my basket Stubbs and another smoke, about 3/4 of a basket of RO, since the Stubbs is denser. Should that provide for a fair evaluation?
 
I agree the RO burns a little shorter, and a little hotter. I didn't have an ash problem because I didn't prepare enough RO for a full smoke - the cheese balls too ~45min.


I will likely be using Stubbs simply because it's almost $.25 cheaper per pound than RO. And I smoke at least 3x a week, often more.
 
I've used it a good bit (not exclusively) I bought 200 lbs a week or so ago. It's a good charcoal with good burn rates, and about average ash production. I buy it through a friend.. so the price makes it a damn good charcoal.~~~ Even at regular retail it's around 45 Cents...well in line with other briquettes.
 
Great thread! I've never really given much thought to briquettes. I buy Kingsford because it's what they carry at Sam's Club. Maybe I'll start shopping around! Thanks for the ideas.

Squirrel - there's quite a difference in price and cooking ability of some briquettes. And also what the binders are made from. I prefer a more "natural" briquette or lump, personally. I know RO makes good lump and was hoping maybe this is a natural briquette like their lump. 

One day I'll get around to it, and have it shipped to the local do-it-best store, so I don't have to pay S&H.
