Rivet’s Smoked Cayenne & Jalapeno Salsa

First of all I’d like to thank Rivet for this excellent salsa that he was nice enough to send to me.
Now about the salsa. Looking at the jar you can see that it has a nice deep red color, and you can see the seeds, onions, peppers, cilantro, and onion. This is very appealing to the eye of a Chilehead.

The aroma has the sweetness from the limes and tomatoes, and the smoke from the peppers. Very pleasing aroma.

Taste has a very good balance of flavor and heat. You first taste the sweetness followed by the smoke, and then the heat comes on. The heat starts at the back of your throat and proceeds along your tongue, lips, and the roof of your mouth. It has a very good texture on the chunky side, which means he didn’t over blend/process it. I find the texture great, as it won’t slide off your food like thin runny salsa. My tasting was done straight out of the jar, no other flavors to single out.

All in all, it is an excellent salsa that you will not find in most Mexican restaurants, which includes all of my favorites throughout the southwest. He has taking his time and done his research and taste testing throughout. I rate it at a 10 out of 10, or just plain EXCELLENT.

Viva Rivet.

richoso beat me to it - everything he said, i have to add a PLUS 1 to it ~

many, many thanks to rivet for sharing this - i very much enjoyed the mellow aroma of the pecan smoke, the warm spice of the peppers and the freshness of the tomatoes and onions as well as all other infgredients. this stuff was outstanding and in my mind deserves to be on supermarket shelves ~

eccellente!

I sent Rivet a thank you in private messages but let me take this opportunity to whole heartedly agree with you guys and give him a big thanks. Absolutely delicious salsa. I didn't have any chips or anything to try it with so I was just eating it by the spoonful and it is delicious. So much better than anything you will find in the stores.

Hey all,

glad you liked the salsa, and let me tell say that hearing how much you all liked it was more enjoyable than the great fun I had making it!

Thanks for the good words and I already have another one in the works with a little bit of tweaking....one thing I learnt is that Vidalia onions get sweeter when you make them in a salsa~

Looks great, is iot hot? Wishing I had some, lol.

No, it wasn't really hot, but it did have some zing and pep to it, but then again to me, it falls under the category of hot ONLY if I have to suck air through my mouth to cool off my tongue, and/or my neck starts sweatin'!

No worries Ron, next time I make a batch I'll square you away with a jar.

I'm very thankful to Rivet also was lucky enough to get some salsa too. it is very good smooth to the taste not alot of heat but I don't think I'm gonna sit down and eat a whole jar. It's heat is like getting kicked by a one hooved mule. It does have a good smokey flavor and you can taste alot of the ingrendents like the limes and calentro. all in all if I could buy this salsa I would have a bunch of it in the cabinets.

To you Rivet. The folks going to Jerry is gathering will have the pleasure to try it too.
