i smoked an 18 lb packer last night and it's almost done. I usually just put them on a cookie sheet and throw some foil over and rest for about 45 min or so. this time I'm wanting to wrap and rest in a cooler. I've never tried it this way and want to try but is it gonna effect the bark (I don't wrap while cooking) and make it soft? I'll be sure to post some pics when it's done

It will soften the bark a little but not much. An 18lb packer in a cooler with towels should stay hot for 4 or more hours so if you need to hold it for a while that is the way to go.

That's a big one! Nice work!

Congrats on the brisket, looks great!  This is the first year I've started resting the brisket in a cooler and they have turned out much more tender so I'm a big fan of it.

I smoke sans foil all the time , placing it in the cooler does soften the Bark a bit , but no problem , if it taste good , no-one will even notice .
