Just tracked down a reconditioned heavy guage 55 gallon drum i was told by the company that it was sandblasted and incinerated to 1500 degrees, then they paint them for re-sale. They offered to sandblast the exterior for free so i figured even better why not.

My question is there anything else i need to do to this drum prior to painting and building the inside still smells like sandblasting material should i burn it again and wire wheel or just weed burner and then paint?

So you think if i get it up to 400 with coals i should be good, i plan to season with oil before this .

I wouldn't think it's necessary to burn it again but it's no big deal too even though they say it's already been incinerated.   I'm going to burn mine once with pallets and then season it.

I think I just figured out the odd smell inside the drum, rust inhibitors, how should that substance be removed?

My first thought would be burn it out with a good hot fire and then pressure wash the inside..
It's too bad you can't buy the barrel at the point where they've incinerated and sandblasted it and just take it from there.
