Hey everyone, been burning charcoal for the last few years on my Weber Grill and love it, but it has its limitations for feeding larger groups of people. Now i'm ready for something more. I stumbled across this site and found lots of good info. I've started doing some research on smokers, I was looking at getting a Char-griller smoking pro to start out but I think I would like the challenge and cost savings of building my own. I like to design and fab as a hobby so a small offset firebox smoker seems like a good project. I am in the process of sourcing (scrounging) some tanks to use as the fire box and smoke chamber. I found a 7 gallon air pig that I am considering using as fire box; I might be able to get a 18 gallon steel drum to use as the cooking chamber for free, if not I found a 21 gallon air tank for sale that would also work just a little more cost involved. Both would give me and would give me approximately the proper proportions but i'm looking to keep costs down so the free option is looking to best to me. Still a little bit of research to do and a little designing to but looking forward to getting started.
