I was @ the local grocery store and was checkin' out the beef ribs (5 or 6 to a pack singles) wonderin' "hmm....sure would like to smoke some up on sat for the game on sun. night" when the man comes from through the door pushing his cart with 10 packages of the same ribs I was looking at and heads over to the discount shelf. I ever so casually follow him over there and a lady of the female persuassion pushes her basket inbetween myself and my intended target and starts loading up beef ribs saying to me "oh my dogs will just love these". Now I love dogs (post: show your dog) but I don't know hers and I only wanted a few. After a few deep breaths, I calmly asked her if I could help her find another cut of meat in place of a few of those ribs that her pups might enjoy more. She agreed, and I left with these little gems @ $.99 a lb (six packages) and also in my search for her beloved pooch's replacement suppuer I found a nice jet netted sirloin roast for $5.00.
Looks like I'll be firing up (sorry.....plugging) the ol' MES for all this and some ABT's for football food.
Qvue to follow.

Cool Lawdog....just goes to show that helping out oftens pays off. Make sure ya post some pics of those bad boys when yer done. Have fun.

Beef backed ribs?? I love those individual packs, but have seen them call spare ribs, short ribs, etc. Those were some dang cheap ribs. Looking for a great qview in the future. My dog loves beef ribs also, but he is getting the left over bones and thats it.

Reminds me of in December I offered to make a friend some elk bacon and he brought me 13 lbs. of elk roast to make it with; and as a jesture of thanks he gave me 3 additional elk roast for myself. Then he indicated his next stop was a ladies house to "get rid" of the remaining elk roasts (he had a large cooler full). He explained that these roasts were a year old (cyro packed) and since he had 2 elk being processed from this year they had to go to this lady that he promise them to for her dog to eat. I honestly think my eyes welled up when he left !!!

By the way, great job working out the ribs with the dog food buying lady.

Yep, that be them. Marinade those in some Mojo Crillio overnight, then into a pan with a little of the marinade. I smoke them for around 4 hours on average. Nice med rare to medium beef rib.

Sirloin roast?, I'm moving into his dog house! Honestly, iI love ribs enough to con any shopper...

personally I don't feed my pups anything but "dog" food. brother"in"law and sister'in'law feed people food to their labs and they look like 4 legged sausages. Bones yes, (under supervision, choking potintial) meat no. Also cuts down on the table begging.

Lawdog I can't agree with you more. people should feed "DOG FOOD" to their dogs. After growing up breeding and training German Short Hair Pointer and running the family dog boarding kennel I can tell you poeple food is for people only. i hate a dog that sits at the table and beggs plus 99% of dogs feed people food do become over weight but unfotunatly their owners think it's cute. But back to your ribs Can't wait to hear how they turned out. I want to try making some this spring as soon as the mud leaves.
