Yesterday's wind storm left several 3"to 4" branches in neighbor s yard which he gladly gave me. I would like to use them along with cherry for thanksgiving cook. My plan is to cut to 4" + splits, weigh and put in gasser to speed things up. Maybe run on low, cool side +/-250* for couple hours and weigh again. Gonna shoot for 75% loss in weight. Am I on the right track here, or can I get by with higher moisture %?

That should work. I have a very large sugar maple above my house and it is always raining branches and stuff down everywhere. lol. I just keep them in a pile on the gravel next to the house and they season pretty darn quick. Look for dead ones, I cut mine up in wafers for the smoker. They seem to dry out faster that way. I like 3 or 4 inch diameter and wafers an inch or so thick. Work great in the UDS and the Weber kettle. I do the same with apple and cherry or whatever I find around here.
