A question for one of the members who owns a ET73 Thermometer..

I was reading some user comments online about the ET73 and one person said that the minimum setting for the High or hot setting was 172 or something around there; is that true?

I am looking for a good versatile dual-probe smoker thermometer to buy; however, I also want to be able to monitor a cold smoke too, not just a hot smoke and if the minimum setting for the hot setting for the meat chamber is somewhere around 172 or 173 F is almost like I would need something else to monitor the high/hot in my smoker for a cold smoke.

If anyone has some input on this I really would like to hear what you have to say if you wouldn't mind..

    Thank you in advance..[IMG]

The minimum setting is 140 degrees Fahrenheit for the high side setting according to this link.

I guess I should have googled it before I asked the I guess it brings to mind another question of does anyone have any idea of a remote thermometer that would work for cold smoking?...

Thank you once again for any input..[IMG]

No; that's not the case. The ET73 will go to lower temps as well.

I have one. Whoever wrote that comment didn't bother doing his homework.

If I remember correctly, 172 is the factory default LOW setting.
The ET73, rationally, does not let you set the HIGH smoke chamber alarm lower than the LOW alarm. If your LOW setting is 172, your HIGH setting has to be higher than that. But if you set your LOW setting is 80, your HIGH setting can be 81 or above.

exactly...[IMG] the lowest mine can be set to is 50 degrees, so the lowest hi temp would be 51 degrees. should be cold enough for any cold smoking.

you also have to remember that the ET-73 is the only thermo in a reasonable price range to offer a high low monitor feature. at least is only one i seen.

    Thank you very much...

The Positive help here will help me get that new smoker built right yet..

I have been using a charcoal smoker for about three years and besides not having enough room to smoke all I want to at one time, I am not getting consistent results.

Finally I got fed up enough to do something about it and am in the process of building a smoker that will smoke either hot or cold. With your help I am finally getting it all situated in my head.

    Thanks again rock! [IMG]

I have a 73. Still learning about it as I've only used it once. On common complaint about them is that they don't transmit/receive through walls very well. The reall weakness of the design is that it won't tell you when it stops receiving. The receiver will just keep displaying the last readings it got from the transmitter.

If anyone knows a way to tell if the receiver has lost contact with the transmitter, please let me know.
