Question about newer Brinkman Smoke & Grill

    Not for me, but a friend. My old charcoal ECB had a lid that was larger than the barrel/body of the smoker. No vent and smoke would sife out the sides below the lid. (added my own vent mod)
    My friend Bib told me his smoker has the barrel/body of the smoker larger than the lid, so that the lid set down inside the body. Said something like a 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap. he is concerned about heat and smoke lost. I queried him as to a lid vent and found out it does not have one. I kinda figured this configuration was to help vent some of the smoke from the smoker. Am I correct?
     
  2. I've had my ECB (smoke n grill) for almost 3 yrs and the lid on mine fits inside the body like your friends. I added a vent to the fire-pan but I didn't add one to the lid because I never really had trouble with maintaining temps with it like it was. I do get smoke loss but the meat seems to be getting plenty so I don't worry about it.

    When I brought my Brinkmann gourmet home and put it together I thought I had a faulty unit due to the gap. But the engineer must of known what he was doing. The thing maintains a pretty good temp despite the smoke and heat seeping.

    There is a store/farm up there, you'll see the signs on 441, called Hillside Orchards. MY GOD!!! If you like Bar-b-que and Hot sauces, along with soup mixes, jellies, chow chow and all those other goodies stop on in. We hit their half price day and still spent $90.00. I've seen their stuff at road side shops, but going to the source will save you major $$. It is a "must stop" on our way to NC to visit the folks in Franklin.

    I have the gourmet with the lid that fits inside the body. I modded mine with vents and a tighter fit, using a coil of flexible copper tubing:

    It works great, and with the slider vent I installed on the bottom pan, I can get a nice range of stable temps...
     
  8. HALF PRICE DAY? I didn't know they had a half price day?? I stop by there every time we go to the mountains. I think our last trip cost me around $100, but we got lots of goodies. I LOVE their salsa's, pickles and hot/bbq sauces. The wife and my Mom love the jellies. Have you ever tried the fried pies and apple and peach fritters? OMG!! [​IMG]

  9. Thats a great idea Hawg using the flexible tubing to help the seal. I've got some of that braided stove sealer on mine and I still have a little gap. I will give this a try. [​IMG]

    Great place, I agree. Salsas are tops. We were surprised by the half price day also. A customer told us as we were walking thru. My wife and i went nuts then. Seems they have it twice a year. Once in Spring, March I think, once in late October. You can call or email the owner and he will tell you the date if it has been set. I am going to do my best to plan our trips around that day from now on [​IMG]
