As I was setting up yestereday morning to make beer my wife was making a shopping list for the grocery store. I glanced over at the list and the first item was "Boston Butt" which just blew me away. Now, this may not be a big deal to you folks but it was a quantum leap for me. When I got my first smoker a few months ago my wife humored me but really didn't share my enthusiasm. She was perfectly content to go to one of the local commercial BBQ joints on the rare occasion that she may want some Q. It didn't help my cause that the first thing I smoked (baby back ribs) didn't come out very well. They were ok but certainly not worth writing home to mom about and definately not worth the time and effort involved. We discussed the pros and cons of how they turned out and I have made some adjustments to cooking techniques. Since then I have played around with several different ways to prep and smoke various meats and she has fallen in love. It has helped that she has made some really good suggestions and requests that have helped me turn out some world class Q. You gotta love a wife that provides positive reinforcement :-)  The part that blew me away yesterday was that I had spent all day Saturday smoking a bunch of meat for our big annual party then first thing the next morning she's planning our next smoking session for that day. She wanted me to make more pulled pork, which I did for the first time last weekend and she just fell in love with. I can't begin to express how grateful I am that she has come full circle from humoring me to loving what I am doing. It's always easier to indulge in a hobby when you have the full support of of the most important person in your life
