Seems to me if we have a thread for gussied-up UDSs, we ought to have a thread for those that stay true to the name."Chrome don't gitya home!" Nothing against those who like 'em painted and purty. Some of them are really sharp and have had a lot of thought and hard work put into them.

I'm just lazy.

This monstrosity started because a coworker came in one day giddy about a "great looking grill" her neighbors had set out for the trash. She had dragged it home for me as a favor. I went to get it and it was pretty apparent why it was out in the trash. I didn't have the heart to tell her she should have let the trash men take it. I through it in my pickup and took it home to put it out for my trash pickup and I realized the frame itself was fairly solid... then the wheels started turning... ya know, that cooking chamber might be good for storage...  I'm tired of rolling my drum around on it's edge... maybe the frame has some use... and I think I've got a couple lengths of angle iron around here... It worked, sorta. as a stand: too flimsy to actually move. Another gasser picked up off the curb supplied more pieces of frame for reinforcement, and WALLA! A really really really ugly UDS.

Mailbox mod is still in cobbling stage.

I know this is an old thread, but I love this!! I'm pretty frugal so I really like seeing how other people reuse found things to make something super cool! I'm in the middle of collecting parts right now for my own uds and my goal is to build it for as free or cheap as possible. So far I'm in it about 40 bucks, just need a ball valve.

thanks, Patti! I can appreciate the hard work folks put into making theirs nice and respectable. Just not my thing, I guess. Probably because I'm as lazy as I am cheap/frugal/broke. I have a habit of getting projects to the stage where they work, then I lose interest in actually "finishing" them....

Ha-ha ya I can relate to that!! I get bored easily and wander off, fully intending to come back and finish the project but you know how that goes. I have so many crochet projects started that I had to make a rule I wouldn't buy anymore yarn unless it was for a specific project lol. But as far as your uds goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think it's awesome! The more free stuff on it, the prettier it is in my opinion!
