I have a backwoods party and I was wondering how to protect a wood deck from the charcoal ash.  When I take out my firebox for cleaning or to light it definitely gets ash everywhere.  I was thinking about placing plywood down but not sure if that would work (or catch fire during lighting!).

Any recommendations are appreciated!!

I'm not exactly sure on the size, I'm guessing 3x5, but if you need a bigger one you could put two of them next to each other.

One of them under my firebox on my Lang catches all the burning coals that fall out of the dampers or door when I'm stirring the fire.

Shopvac out all the ash. Someone here once recommended the 5 gallon bucket top vacuum you can buy at home depot or Lowe's, but I already have a shopvac so that's what I use.
If you're looking for protection from burning embers that's a different story.

I checked out the mats Al suggested, they come in fairly large sizes.  I think I will be fine if I place on under the smoker and one in front.

Thanks!
