propane and wood used together?

  1. Good Morning,

I hope I'm putting this in the correct forum.  If not please direct me to the proper place.

My smoker uses both gas and charcoal/wood. It doesn't have an offset firebox ( plans to add this in the near future) but the heating sources are both within the cooking chamber.  I have 1 gas line that runs the length of the cooking chamber, which can be completely removed, and there's a charcoal/wood tray as well that can be positioned anywhere along the bottom of the smoker.  I'm including a picture below.  My question is can I use both simultaneously?   I would like to use the wood for the smoke flavor and the gas to maintain the temperature.  What are your thoughts?

Flame consumes smoke sooooo, you will have to see how it goes, in your application....
  3. You have to be careful to make sure the smoke doesn't smother the gas flame. We had that happen an it cracked the cinder block wall when the gas exploded. The smoker I just built has a air vent for the gas flame so we won't blow our new smoker up.... I'll try an post a pic..
