I got my master built propane smoker converted to ng today and also got my Maverick ET 732 today.  Now that I am all set to experiment and create a BBQ log, I have some questions.

1) do you preheat the smoker to the desired temperature (225) and then add the wood chunks?

2) do you add the wood chunks while your preheating?

3) do you crank up the heat until it smokes then turn it down?

4) do you crank up the heat then cool it down and add the smoke?

Also how long should it normally take to preheat?  I guess my questions center around what setting should I preheat as well such as high, med, low or what?

I just dont want to waste gas and wood.

Thanks in advance

Do a test run.....   Heat to sterilize..... add wood.... check the smoke etc......  before you attempt to smoke food......  Dave
