PR question

    The family and I are going out of town for Christmas.

    I've bought a 5 lb prime rib to smoke. My question is, can I smoke it at home before we leave, then maybe finish (or warm it up in the oven) once we get to our destination?

    Traveling about 3 1/2 hrs. Now I've been informed that we won't be eating until the day after we arrive.

    I'm trying to get away from having to cook it all in the oven. But may have to, still open to suggestions!!!

    The short answer is yes but like Waterin asked how far are you traveling. Makes a difference in the advice you get.

    Well, if you were traveling 3 1/2 hrs & eating upon arrival... I'd say wrap it a few layers of foil, towels & put in a cooler for the travel... It'd still be plenty warm to eat ! But if your not eating til the next day... Not sure what smoker ya have, but any way ya can take it with you or where your going, do they have a smoker ? The only other option would be to reheat it ! Was ya going for rare, med rare ?

    Med. rare is the most I'd like it done.

    We don't have enough room in my wife's car to take along my smoker. So I guess I'll have to warm it in the oven the next day.

    Should I only smoke it up to 110-115, then plan on finishing it off in the oven the next day?

    I'd pull it round 120* then yea, finish in the oven...
