Started the butt, at least I think it's a butt, at 11:00.
I grabbed it at Walmart, called a shoulder butt blade roast. I gave it a coat of mustard, rub and injected it with italian dressing.

Trying out my new smoke generator toy for overnight smokes, so this one will be on it's own until about 7 in the morning

. Hoping to wake up and still see TBS going.

Here's a few pics and I'm going to bed.

Looks good, I'll be watching. Thanks for posting, Dave, I am interested to see the results.

That's looking good. Can't wait for the final pics.

Thanks everyone

Slept until 7am this morning and spritzed the butt for the first time around 8AM, talk about lazy huh...LOL.

It's been around 11hrs and the butt is at 166 internal. I've just sprayed it with some apple juice for the second time at 10am.

I'm not going to foil this one and leave it smoking until it reaches 190. Then foil, leave in the cooler a few hrs. and slice for dinner.

Here's a pic after 11hrs and second spritz with apple juice. Butt is around 9lbs.

Looks great Dave how did the smoke generator do?

Hi Jerry..Did have a little hiccup that I noticed before I went to bed. My theory of adding vibration to help the pellets drop didn't pan out. I think all that did was help everything get compacted and it had stopped, maybe lost smoke for 2 hrs. Changed it back

. I think my pellet dropping issue was the screen basket sides were too long and would hold things up. Gave it a little trim, re-assembled and fired it back up. Ok now

. Maybe I should just leave well enough alone, but just not my nature

.

My neighbors were probably trying to figure out what the hell all the lights and noise was at 1 in the morning :).

Here's another pic at 13hrs.

Another pic at 15hrs, internal temp is 175. Flipped and rotated it. Spritzing each hr with apple juice. Smoke generator is still going strong, no trouble since trimming the screen.

Ok, these pics just made my mind up for me. I wanted to do nothing this weekend. Nothing at all, 'cept sleep. The wife wanted me to smoke a butt. I guess that i just had to see a great qview to bring me to my senses!

Here she is finished after 18hrs, in smoker the whole time without foiling. Pulled it at 185, will rest for an hour and slice for dinner

I had some unexpected dinner guests and missed getting the sliced pics.

Everyone complimented about how tender it was, but I felt it could have been better. Some of the outer edges were a little dry, but not bad. The rest of it was juicy and tender.

I would say next time I'll go with foiling to keep the corners a little more moist. 18hrs is on the long side to keep the edges tender without covering it up. Foiling would have probably shaved a little of the cook time too.

Something I wanted to try since I've liked the ribs better without foiling them. Turned out to be a great tasting experiment that will feed us for a couple days

Doesn't your wife deserve a nice pork butt

. I can't remember the last weekend I got to relax, so that sounds pretty good too
