Polk salad, I'm a dumb a$$

Have picked polk when was about ankle high and ate raw. Sure was good. Picked some bout knee high and ate raw. Always heard to never pick polk after it turns red. This knee high was almost there on stalk as far as turning red. what the hell. Got so sick I thought I was going to die, coming out both ends. Guess you got to cook it! So be carefull. Sure some of ya know this already. Have picked other greens and good. Wouldn't place that feelin on anybody. Feel better today late,and this was Thursday night. Trying to sweat out the poison outside. For all who need to know, BE CAREFUL!

Hello.  Below is a link you might want to read.  I have eaten turnip tops, beet tops, radish tops, mustard greens, collard greens and something over here they just call "spring greens" ( similar to collards ) but never polk salad.  I have always heard of it but never knew exactly what the plant looked like or tasted of.  Thanks for the heads up.  Seems it is pretty toxic.  Guess it's like that fish they eat in Japan; when done properly you are good to go, if not you may die.  Keep Smokin!

I grew up in rural North Carolina and have always lived in the South. I've heard of heard of polk salad since I can remember. I've heard of people eating it but I've never eaten it. And to tell you the truth, after reading the link that Danny posted, I don't think I ever will. I think I'll just stick to collards, mustard and turnips.

Come to think of it have had polk twice and was as said ankle high. Grandad talked about sourdock. There are 2 kinds. Curly and straight. Never rememberd witch one, because one is poison, yhen read that curly dock, but don't take my word for it, since I tried to kill myself. Have eatin collard, grow Seven Top turnip.
