I saw the great post from Africanmeat and even though I do not have the same peppers had to give it a try. Here is our version with Serranos . Think I will use Habaneros next time

Here we are rubbed with a mixture of salt , paprika, corriander, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil and serranos

Thanks for the recipe it turned out great!!

that's my kinda eatin', great lookin plate the gary.........love the color on that bird too!

Fine looking meal there!  I am giving thought to habaneros, too.  Just figuring it out and working up my courage.

Good luck and good smoking.

Excellent looking bird and meal! I bet it was mighty tasty.

I was under the impression that Piri Piri is cooking using the African bird's eye chili?

I was able to find a rub from "Pepper Pilot" a website, and forum member on another forum, that packages his Peri Peri with the African bird's eye chili. It is about half as hot as a habanero - around 175,000 scoville.

It has a beautiful flavor - spicy/hot enough to catch your attention and leave you craving for more - but not quite hot enough to "stop you in your tracks, hot". It's lovely, and highly recommended, if you can get a hold of some.

I was thinking about smoking the habaneros down to make a super hot paprika for the sauce.  Just not sure how much that would bring down the heat. I can't get piri piris here, and the oriental peppers I tried didn't have enough heat at least for the sauce recipe I was using.

Good luck and good smoking.

I heard that this pepper is available at some Cost Plus stores. Going to have to check. Thanks for the link - that is why I called it Mock by the way

Thanks for all the great responses and to Africanmeat for the great post that inspired this cook

Great lookin' plate Gary!

Orzo?  I looked high and low to find risotto rice that a member's wife made and now you introduce me to orzo, I'm gonna have to go huntin' that now to give it a try.

No biggie - I hope you can find it. I like it, and would buy more (of the premixed stuff, I was sent samples of).

To me, it's very versatile - it has a good amount of heat and a nice flavor. Not all the time do I want Habanero "spicy" either. This Peri Peri mix, satisfies my "heat" craving without torching my mouth.
