Caveman - I've noticed that the post wasn't made by you, but since you where the one that guided me to it - I've thanked you. of course the same thanks are to Beer B Que.

Hi all
A small (but it took quite some time) progress was made. as you will be able to see on the pics - I've made a frame around the opening in the drum. the purpose of it is double, first, to add rigidity to the opening, since the thickness of the drum material is only 1mm. the second reason is that it will be able to hold the hinges and the latch for the door. the frame was made of 3mm thick flat stripes of sheet metal that were formed and welded to the drum. the next step will be to install the door. until then, enjoy your smoking.

Hi , thanks for your comments.
NGreenhorn - me too, but as you can imagine, I work on it only in my spare time.

Gunner69 - Thanks for checking. thats what I meant to do anyhow. I hope it will be soon.

Geert - Thanks for keeping an eye.

Keep the qview coming...

I can't quite figure out what you are doing there....my UDS doesn't have an access door, nor does it need one? Can you explain.

Hi CJ
I'll be glad to. there are several reasons that I opted to do it this way. first, I was not able to find a ready dome lid as many of the members are using, so, I was looking for an alternative and I found it (or so I hope) in making a UDS with a side opening. I think that it has the advantage that it decreases the temperature drop when opened. since the heat's tendency is to move up, when you open the lead of the "conventional" UDS. it's easier for the hot air inside to go out, so with a side door, the temperature drop is lower. (at least, that's the theory).

Hi smokers
I've managed to install the door, as you can see for yourself. of course the door still has to be ct on its right side and final adjusted in order that it will fit exactly
to the drum. the next step will be to install a handle and the latch. it takes time, but it will be finished eventually.
