new to the smoking game , just unpacking  a quisinart electic (pls don't hold that against me its my first smoker) just would like to know if wood pellet or chips are better or both the same.

I don't think pellets will work well, burn up too fast. Chips or small chunks (1" X 2") work well for short bursts, 30 to 45 minutes, in the unit. If you want up to 10  hours without reloading get one of the Pellet Smoke Generators from A-MAZE-N Products... http://www.amazenproducts.com/Default.asp Todd the owner is very helpful and will make sure you are set up and satisfied...JJ
