Pecan Is The Best!!

I scored some PECAN wood today that was seasoned for 4 years and I can say that it smoked better than any wood so far. It burned very well and maintained a steady temp for a long period of time. I GOT A SLOOOOW LONG BURN WITH FAIRLY LARGE CHUNKS. ( apx 10 inch by 4 inch). AND did it smell good! I figured that wood being that seasoned (dry)would burn up hot and fast but NOT. The flavor is next to none even beating the cherry wood I used last week. It's 1 AM and my butt just hit 205 so after it rests for an hour or so I pull it and enjoy the rich flavor All week long..

i scored on some pecan a while back and it was ok too. but didnt hold a candle to cherry which is what i have pretty much been using for everything except a little maple now and then... the wood may have different flavors depending on how it was cared for or even perhaps on the soil and nutrients available to it. pecan from one area may be different than pecan in another. but it looks like you found something you like so i would go with it. thats what its all about... you pleasing your taste buds!!!

Well I like Pecan, apple, and oak and pear. Taste is subjective so if its pecan you crave enjoy!

I like my pecan to. I traded some cherry for what pecan I've had. Erain try cherry and pecan together. It's the bomb!!! Thanks to davenh he gave me a link for doit best harware stores they do free shipping to stores. So I have 30#s of pecan chunks to pick up tommorrow that i paid $24 for. Great deal for up north. You can't buy hickory at walmart for that.

(This is "for what it's worth info") Pecan is in the same family as hickory, and mild at that. So it only make sense that Pecan and BBQ go hand and hand.

Never tried pecan, though I always wanted to. Haven't done anything with cherry either. Realized a few weeks ago that my Dad has a pile of wood outside the back of his house. He used to have a wood stove but no longer, I assume he is keeping it around for emergencies, a zombie outbreak or something...
So I asked him what it was and turns out it is mostly oak and cherry, the oak has some kind of weird black spongy fungus on it so that's getting thrown in the woods, the cherry looks great though, just need to pull myself away from hickory and smoke something with cherry. Not sure what pairs well with cherry, everything I assume?

In-laws have a pecan orchard. Get a lot of pecan. Had a hug tree fall during one of the hurricanes. I prefer hickory though.

Try mixing cherry and hickory together. You won't be disapointed. Heres the link for the 10 #s of pecan chunks. There is a spot for a zipcode on the ship to store . I had to go beyond 20 miles to fond a store that had that option but it saves $40.00 in shipping on 30#s of pecan chunks.

Being from Georgia, you should just be able to pick it up off the ground basically. That's want I do everytime we head up to NC to visit the MIL. It is a mild wood. I like it alot for Chicken and Fish. I do have some cherry so will try the Pecan-Cherry combo.

Flash, where abouts in NC is it you get the wood from? My sister lives near Raleigh and I could always have her grab some and bring it up next time she visits.
Gonna give cherry and hickory a try the time after next time I smoke, the next one has to be all apple for my brother-in-law but combo hickory/cherry should be something new, and something delicious.
