Hope I'm not too far of topic, but maybe someone can help.

Just bought a used high end BBQ.

After a good power wash I can get everything to work but the infrared rotiss burner.

The burner will light, but not get red.

No parts are avail for this unit (was in production for 2 yrs).

I have not taken it apart yet and don't know if it is a ceramic material or the older woven material type.

I have looked on line and found some replacement ceramic squares that might work.

Anyone ever take one apart and replace the material?

I don't know what type or brand of cooker that you have and I don't know anything about the problems that you describe. I'm sorry I can't help, but someone will come along shortly who can help. A brand and type with a picture will help greatly, if you can post that.

The grill is made by Vermont Castings.

I took off the infrared burner and I have 2 pieces of stainless mesh screen and a stainless steel backing plate.

It looks like there was a woven material between the screens that the burner would heat up and make t glow hot (kinda like the small propane heaters used by ice fishing or hunting).

I have found on line for ceramic 3x3" squares that I could use in place of the woven material but dont know if it would work because the propane gas is not flowing through the small holes in the ceramic to heat it up.

I my case the heat from the propane burner would radiate up and heat the blocks that way. Don't know if it would get hot enough.

If I knew what the woven material was made from or where I could get some I would use it.

Thanks,

I have the part number but it is no longer avail.

What I was looking for is the woven material that was inside the radiant heater.

I tried ceramic tiles but they wont work because the gas is not going through them and they dont get hot enough.

I'll keep looking for the woven material.

Thanks anyway

Larry

Well how about giving us a part number and maybe someone will know what the material is that you're looking for.

The part number is:

Vermont Casting #5000961

It comes as a complete assembly and is NLA.

The item I need is inside the assembly

The reason I ask all these questions is that I am about one hour from their manufacturing facility and I have friends that work there. What is the model number of the grill?

WOW, that's great...

Vermont Casting

model number is:  CF90803AP

Serial: CF90803AP02-161566

Rotiss burner assembly. 50000961

I have everything but the woven material that fits between the 2 stainless steel mesh wire.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Let me email Kurt with the info and see what he has to say. He's a production engineer in the fireplace division now but he use to work over in grill production. He may be able to identify the material and tell me the source provider. Fingers crossed.

Well Kurt got back to me today and I'm afraid you're out of luck. The part was sub contracted and the sub is out of business. Unfortunately no one seems to know what type of cloth was used in that part. I'm sorry I couldn't help you out.

Hey, at least you got further than I did.

I have been looking at new grills and looking at the ceramic infared burners on them.

Thinking of making a burner and modify the grill to except it.

I can get the ceramic plates for less than $.80 each.

Just looks like a box that seals off the ceramic tiles so the gas is forced through them, then light and let it rip.

Cant be to difficult.

What could go wrong..
