Our smoker is buried in the garage somewhere...

...but this is the year we're going to learn to use it.

We've used our smoker about twice and not done too well with it. We have a Brinkmann smoker with an electric element in it. It's been packed away for several years now, but we have renewed interest in it so are planning to try again.

"We" consists of me (Rae) and Fred. We live in northern Minnesota where it's still not quite spring, so we're not quite ready to get started with the smoker yet, but we're gathering knowledge in the meantime and will be attempting our first fattie on our Cobb cooker tomorrow.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should confess to being friends with that troublemaker, mgwerks. [IMG] I hope I'll be allowed to hang out here anyway. [IMG]

    (KIDDING, Mark!)

Welcome to SMF, Rae! Glad to have you join the group [IMG]

You'll learn lots of good stuff about how to use that smoker and will soon be addicted to this fine hobby.

Don't I remember you from Open Roads RV forum? Anyway, welcome to SMF. There's a lot of good folks here to help out with your smoking. Just jump in and start asking questions.

Welcome to the SMF, Rae! It's about the definitive place for learning and sharing barbecue. I have learned an awful lot here, and hopefully been able to pay a little back in the meantime. I am very excited that you are jumping into this with aplomb. The best way to improve is to cook, cook, cook. Don't forget to take lots of pictures - as you can see, we thrive on Q-view. I know with your focus and attention to detail you will be turning out great eats in a short time.

Bassman - I thought that name looked familiar from somewhere else...

Thanks, guys. I do think I can learn a lot here. I've been lurking around off and on for a little while and picked up a few tips already.

I've been around rv.net off and on for years, mostly 'off' lately.

Damn, now I'm going to have to learn how to post pictures. Not easy for the techno-challenged.

Posting pics on here is a snap compared to RV.net. Just open a free Photobucket account, upload your pics and copy and paste from there. Once again, glad to have you here.

Q-view of our first fattie added to this thread.

We grilled that fattie, but next time when it's just us and not something we have to have done at a certain time co-ordinated with a bunch of other dishes, we're going to try doing a real smoke job on the fattie in the Cobb. We'd like to be able to use that for camping because it's versatile and such a nice size for travel. And we have to learn to smoke in the smoker, too, so it'll be a fun summer as we experiment!

Welcome! Dig that thing out and let's have a look at it. I was using a ECB electric too for a while so interested to see what you have.
