well folks I'm doing and an old school st-patrick's day style cornedbeef and cabbage for superbowl sunday, I'm going to boil it this afternoon

I got my cornedbeef already in it's brine and spices at a favorite deli of mine here in montreal, it's 12 lbs , and sells for 3.50 a lb asis in the bag ready to cook

I think the red color is from the blood in the meat mixing with the brine over time, I have no idea what the spices are in there but it sure is good

it's a true cumfort food for me I love it, cornedbeef in Kimel bread sandwitches the next day is above and beyond :-))))))

DonO, that meal looks really good! I've not tried a corned beef and cabbage dinner. Are you boiling the meat in plain water or have you added spices?

Details, if you've got the time!

all I do is open the bag and dump the brisket with the brine and spices into the pot, fill it with water and bring it to a boil, turn it down to simmer and let it simmer all day, add water as needed, when the brisket starts to come apart when you lift it with a carving fork, it's time to take it out.
put the brisket on a pan cover it with foil and keep it warm in the oven, then add your potatoes and carrots to the same water/brine and spice that you cooked the brisket in cook it till the potatoes are almost done. then add a cabbage head cut into 8 , the cabbage takes no more then 20 minutes to boil

then start eatingand singing irish pub songs lol

The stores are starting to stock the corned beef heavy. I may have to do a couple in order to be ready for st patties day.
DonO you have made me hungry my friend!!!

I pour a bottle or two of beer into my boil. Not sure if it helps, but it makes me feel better. Kimel bread? Yep, gotta love boiled dinner.

Kimel Bread is Rye bread with these little black seeds in it, I get it at the same deli I buy my brisket of corned beef at. I love the stuff
