Good grief, another Virginian smok'r.
Been lurk'n for a bit and finally joined.
Hobbies are fish'n rivers, building rods & baits, & beer brewing.
Don't consider Smok'n a hobby, since eating is essential (and the wifey likes it when I cook).
Been burn'n meat on the grill since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Wife got me Steven Raichlen's BBQ USA one year and soon the old grill was converted to a smoker using his technique of one-sided no-heat cooking and soaked wood chips in an aluminum foil package.
After six years, the old grill/smoker died, so the wife got me a Landmann Smoky Mountain Series Gas Smoker. Yeah, it's not traditional, but gas is so easy and the finished products good.
Put it together last weekend and now played hookie from work and am seasoning it with some apple wood my Cuz gave me when he cut down the tree.
Looking forward to learning allot about how to use this new toy of mine. Already picked up some nice techniques and plan to use them. For instance, never brined. That'll be a treat.
Are there any modifications to this smoker that I should be making to get a better end-product?
