It's time to start hinting around about my Christmas Present...

The Issue...MES 40" 20070311 verses MES 40" 20070810...Different sites have the same picture, but different model numbers with prices from $299 (20070810 at Sam's Club) to $389 (20070311 at Amazon)...

What is the difference?

Do both have the RF Remote?

Do they get down to 130-170*F to do Kielbasa and other smoked sausage?

Do both have the 1200W heating element?

I know I need to talk to Todd cause they don't make much smoke at low temps.

While I have your attention...The GOSM/Landmann Propane Smokers...

Do they get down to 130*F to smoke Sausage?

Can they be easily temp regulated to do Smoked Sausage?

My BRAIN hurts!...Thanks for your help Guys...JJ

Hi Jimmy,

They are basically the same smoker. Sam's has the best deal. It's the 1200 watt model with remote & wheels. I just bought one for just sausage & bacon. It is a perfect smoker for that if you you Todd's AMNPS. I have a Smoke Vault, which is very similar to a GOSM and have smoked some sausage in it. The problem is you have a hard time with precise temp control at low temps. The Vault is a killer smoker for poultry because it can easily get up to 325-350. You can even get it up above 400 and it recovers within a minute or so of opening the door. You may have to buy both!

Here's a list of the model #'s. The difference is the 0311 is all stainless steel, not just the door. Even though it doesn't show it here the one at Sam's has the remote & wheels.

Al has it all covered!

I own (3) MES 40's and recently added a Pellet Grill/Smoker to my herd.

IMHO - The MES 40 is a good all around smoker

What's cool., is you can set temp control and basically walk away

The lowest temp you can set is 100°, but the temp will spike and then settle down

The MES is very well insulated, and I've smoked successfully in 20° weather.

The diff between SAM'S and Cabellas is Cabelas has an "All Stainless" exterior

Both have the new remote controller and wheels.

Hope This Helps!

Todd

Ok, This clears up a lot...Thanks...I don't think the extra $89 for all Stainless is worth it, unless you MES vets have had issues with the Black Powder Coat peeling or flaking...I'd rather send the $89 to Todd and get some Goodies!!!...What do you think?

I Agree 100%

My MES 40's sit outside, but not in direct weather.  I pull them in when we're gonna have a nasty snow storm.

When they're in the garage, the smell is wonderful!

Mine stays on the lanai (under the roof) next to the pool. I haven't had it all that long but no issues at all with durability, so far!!

This thread reminded me to get the ABT stuff for tomorrow!! Shrimp boil for friends and ABTs for appetizers! I'll be using andouille made a couple of months ago in the peppers.

Al covered it all pretty good.

All stainless or not, the one thing I would add would be "Don't pay more than $300 for the one that isn't all stainless".

My all stainless one actually cost $349 from Cabela's.

Everything else is the same on both models.

Either one---You'll love it!
