If it was for me I would like the outside shelf to be counter height or 3'  then where ever the cooking grate ends up will be fine and I will live with it.

Stan

I plan on the cooking grate to be about 1.5 inches higher than the serving shelf, I will need that for the door and flange . Most counters are 32" or 34", I was just wondering if it shouldnt be a bit higher. What are most gas grills at?

Hey rib,

I guess it really all depends on how call you are. I am 64 and find that a 3234 inch counter is just a little too low for me. When I make mine I think I will make the shelf probably 36 may be 38 inches of depends. I guess the best thing to do is stand at  your kitchen counter and figure out if you think that feels good to you.

I am 6'2" and my counters are 37" and I find them to be a bit low, but not overly low. Your not prepping on the shelf, so it is really what you feel comfortable working on for a cooking surface. My stove top is at the same height as my counters.

The kitchen counter is a tad too low for me, back will start bothering me after a while, so I get a tall chair and sit down.  But I dont want the heat from the cooker going right in my face, and the door will be easier to lift if its lower. ???  Anybody got one this size that has any input as to how they like the height? Sqwib, how high is yours?

My smoker's shelf is at 34"  and bottom rack is 36" seems to be comfortable to me.

Here is what I'm leaning toward now for the trailer, the chamber is 24", so trailer frame will go 36" to 38", This axle kit should put my wheels centered at 50",

Ahhh the good thing about living in the Lower 48. I was going to get this same setup delivered to mebut there was a $94 shipping fee. Needless to say I passed on that!

Well, got me a trailer built this morning, now I can get on with this build.....

I was wondering how honest a guy you are so here is the test question. On the left side of your tailgate latch you have a camera! So after you get your build completed and pull up to a stoplight are you going to shift into reverse so you can look at it in the mirror? Remember ya gotta be honest...

Oh by the way I may copy that trailer.

No, but I may pull over quite often to look at it!

I think I will set cooking grid height at 40", that will give me 16" under the firebox. The top of the chamber will be 52", so I won't have much of a stack and still be able to get it in the garage.

Wow, this is really going to fill this trailer up...

Sorry, just sitting here laying it out......going to mount firebox and cooking chamber Saturday and want to have a plan.

RW Make your stack removable    Just a thought.      I've see pictures of your work and you are a great fabricator, and I know you like trying new things out. May be worth a try. Good thing about a cut off wheel, torch and welding machine .

Ok, please give me some feedback, I tend to get out there on my ideals some times.

I was thinking, instead of attaching the top of the firebox to the end of the reverse flow plate inside the CC, shape it so as nothing extends into the CC at all. Then hang the reverse flow plate from two half circles from the top of the CC a few inches past the door openings, both sides. Basically sealing off the cook area from the rest of the tank. Then at the firebox end, there would be an opening in that half circle and I would plumb in an elbow to the exhaust, at the other end would be the opening that allowed the heat into the cooking portion, similar to a Jambo

Picture looking into the CC , you would have the normal reverse flow plate, but at each end, just past the end up your cooking grate, there would be bulk heads going straight up sealing off both ends except for the exhaust opening in one, intake in the other.

Something like this, but like I said, sometimes I get my mind out there, especially late at night.
