Hey isaac i noticed you didnt fully weld your cc door sealing strip. I no that it dosnt need to be fully welded. I have seen some smokers where the outside is all dirty and greasy. I want the outside of me smoker to look like i just painted it lol ... so i was thinking about fully welding the outside of the seal strip to hope to stop any leakage. It would probably just stop the cc door from getting greasy. But iam unsure if it will be worth the hassel of trying to get the door back to the same radius as the cc after its welded. I noticed yodas and some other smokers are fully welded. So i guess iam just asking are you happy that you choose to spot weld your door seal or do you think you should of welded it?

I used a tig welder low amp setting, I tacked the inside first, , I worked from the center out, jumping back and forth between sides top and bottom. Always working center out. I then tacked the outer side in the same manner. Mark out your spacing for the tacks so it's even and appealing to the eye. I then welded where I put a tack, working out from center again, using lots of c clamps, inside first out side last.
The seal is great, I have no latches and no leaks, key is to have enough overlap and really clamp it good.

Great build, very clean.

I also stitch weld the inside of the door seal every 100mm with a TIG to give it a clean look and don't have a problem with smoke leaking.

You may want to put a deflector on the inside of the door to stop drips running down the inside and escaping onto your new paint.

Also you can use High temp sealant on the door to stop anything escaping, but if you smoker is built correctly it shouldn't be leaking out the door.

I noticed u havent used a counter weight on the door. I think most smokers look better without a counterweight . Urz looks good so is this why u have chosen no counter weight? Iam not going to put one on my smoker no mater how heavey the door is. I mean if the doors open and ur looking its not cooking right? So bottom line is it shouldnt be a problem to lift a heavy door a couple of times during the cook

I also think counter weights are ugly, and I don't need it, it's not that heavy. Also space, when I cook it's infront of my shop,
If it was counter weighted I would have to be in the gravel and not on my cement pad.

Isaac, awesome smoker!! Can you tell me the dimensions of your firebox and also what kind of gap you left at the end of the RF plate. Thanks!

Hello Hanson, and thank you, I love it as one of my own kids!!! It doesn't matter how nice they look if they cant cook!!!!

I believe i went with 5.5" at the end, which if i remember correctly  gave me about 70ish sq inches.

What are you building, or planning?

Honestly had been looking at building a 20x40 and stumbled upon this forum and your post by happenstance! Excited to find it and see someone with something very similar to what I was wanting.

Any reaso. You went with more area between the RF plate? I think my math had it at like 50ish sq inches.

My FB to CC was around 51.4sq"
Seg height of 4.5" I think, I went more at the return end to compensate for friction. It works awesome. Any questions you know where I am.

What an awesome build.  Looking to do something very similar to this in the near future.  Great Job!

Very nice build. What dimensions did you end up making your fire box? Again this is an awesome smoker!

Started the smoker at 6:30, brisket was on at 7:30, ate around 19:00hrs. With out opening the lid unless adding poppers the left side and right side were on average 6°F off. It sat dead even for quite some time as well.
I wrapped at 160°F when it started the stall.
I removed the parchment paper at 195°F and put it back on to rebark it.
My IT temp dropped to 180°F after unwrapping, I wasn't really able to get the bark great this time, and it was falling apart, but holy shit was it good.
