Went and checked it this morning and there was still plenty of charcoal and wood chunks left, the ash had clogged it up i guess you have to shake it every now and again? Thats what i heard someone on here saying, going to work and let it burn all day to help prime it up, get rid of the paint smell

Looking good. Yeah ya do have to give it a little shake every so often using briquettes. Not so much when using lump, a lot less ash, but temps are harder to control.

that kinda worries me that the coals didnt all catch and fire was almost out, my other smoker would have burned all the coals.
i wonder if its because of the basket? the steel bowl in my brinkman works good. will mess with it more this weekend.

they are just under two inches, maybe too short? i am gonna raise them when i attach pizza pan to basket though. well this time the coals all burned up during the day, though i opened air holes more

Well i did a pork but on her and man i love my new smoker i could probably do another without reloading coals!! wow that was the easiest smoke i have ever done. meat in cooler resting going to Halloween store with my daughter.

Thanks for the update on your drum. I am really enjoying it.

Thanks to everyone on here or i couldn't have built it and hell I've never even heard of a uds until finding this site. My new uds ROCKS!!!

Thanks to you for some new ideas. I 'm in the process of building mine ,
got the holes drilled and cleaned up ready for the burn out.I'm gonna put the blower tip on my air compressor hose and
point it in the hole to feed the the fire to get her real hot. About 20 psi should do it.

does it have the red liner in it? looks like it in pic? i had a hell of a time getting that out of my barrel, two really good fires didnt do it.
