Ok... been smoking for about a year now, love it and all the info I get from the forum.... but here's the deal... I have a mes 40, just burned through my second thermostat cord... at $50 bucks a piece im over it... Ive been happy up to date, but know I feel like I've just been stood up to prom... I've Google and searched this forum and now I need advice.... Change out the element, or go a different one?? I have a good friend who is a green mountain distributer, but so many options out there... I need help

Get a stick burner. Mine doesn't have any cords. That's not very nice, but I don't know anything about electric cookers and I can't offer any help. Sorry, Joe

Honestly meet Joe black I'm thinking about it.... I loved the ease of this one, but I like the flavor of a good smoke more, I think the pellet versions are less flavor

It may be the 30 honestly, I can't remember... its the cord that plugs in, just has the thermostat dial on it

PM BEarcarver he uses a MES and has for a long time

Howdy, CMF!

Have you called Masterbuilt customer service yet? I'm not sure what you mean by the thermostat cord. Is that the temp probe for the meat? If so, that's easily enough replaced but I'd want to know what causes them to burn through. That's were a call to CS might help.

I have a 40 that is about 3+ years old. It is the 2nd gen model. The heating element went out after not too many hours of smoking. I called CS and got a new one no questions asked. I think Masterbuilt is standing behind their product; so I recommend you call them before scrapping it.

If you really want a smoker, why not make a mini-WSM and give it a try before you take the plunge into another unit? I built one and also use my OTG Weber to smoke many things. One of these days I'm gonna stumble across a deal on a HF and add that to the menagerie.

Good Luck!

I heard they were very good about taking care of their customers

Thanks for the responses... I will call me tomorrow, but maybe add a secondary option option open, maybe its time to add something!

Masterbuilt Customer Service ... I have to say it is very good ...  When My Generation 2.0 was 2 years old, give or take a month or so, they sent me both a new heat coil and controller at "No Charge" and since these Smokers only have a 90 day warranty, they weren't obligated to do that, but they did. Not many companies will go that far, but Masterbuilt did.
