New to smoking meat so I need to read and understand the basics before I do anything in my new smoker. I live in Michigan and recently purchased a 40 " Masterbuilt electric smoker. I have seasoned it but don't feel ready to try anything due to my lack of knowledge and fear of ruining an expensive piece of meat. Also, I would like the weather to be a little warmer before I start a smoking session.

Welcome Cappy23! :welcome:
The best way to learn is to get out there and try it. Start with chicken. Chicken is cheap, hard to ruin and will give you a good idea of how well your new smoker works for you. Go to the grocery store and get the cheapest bit of chicken they have and throw it in there.

Welcome from Canada, Cappy.

The first smokes I did were spotty. Then I found this forum. I started by deciding what I wanted to smoke. Then I looked it up in the search bar. I would go through the recipes and find one that looked like my style.

For my first few smokes, I would post what I was doing while I was going through the smoke and got advice as I went along.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, post pictures, smoke lots and have fun!
