not a good result

    Walmart had .40/# generic turkeys so I couldn't resist for 5 bucks. 8 percent solution, so no brine. I did use a small amout of injecton with butter,apple juice and so on. Long story short.... Nasty dry.I tried the temp at 275 to make it crisper. Pulled it off at 158 in the breast. I will never not brine again.

    A hard learned lesson, but knowledge gained. It wasn't a total loss that way.

    I always brine poultry. Never been sorry I have. Better luck on yer next bird smoke.

    You could always make hot turkey sammies outa it ya know![​IMG] There mighty tastey to.

    Also, smoked turkey salad sammies rule![​IMG]

    I brine even the enhanced birds by the way.

    I know lots here are fans of bargin shopping for meat but I believe you get what you pay for. Sorry it didn't work out.

    The rumor amongst the food industry is that those walmart Turkeys are about to celebrate their birthdays soon![​IMG] But then, thats just a runor I was told![​IMG]

    only two ways to cook a turkey in my opinion. Brine and smoke, or cover with bacon and put on the weber kettle. we have all had our failures. Lord knows how many batches if chicken I have done trying to get that OMG result. Been a few I wasnt proud of.

    I bought two of those turkeys, and did a test one last weekend, I did brine it and cooked it on the UDS, it was good but still a little dry, so the other turkey is in the freezer, and I bought a butterball for the big day. They do make good sandwiches, just add mayo!!!
