Hello SMF! My name is Jason and I'm located in NE Oklahoma near Owasso.
I obtained my first horizontal smoker (Oklahoma Joe's) back in 2008. It was sitting on my girlfriend's back porch (left there by her ex husband) and it was calling my name. Well, fast forward to 2013, she became my wife and I'd like to think the smoked meat played a little part in that!
That smoker was a heavy-duty beast. I sold it back in 2014 (wife said it went for $100 - what was I thinking???) and now I'm kicking myself for doing that. I miss the amount of cooking space it had and the fact that I could get it fired right up when I was out of propane. That leaves me with only one option... buying a new wood fired smoker. I'll be scouring the reviews to find one to suit my budget. Right now I'm using a vertical Masterbuilt 2 door propane smoker and it gets the job done.
I just finished reading Jeff's Smoking Meat book and purchased the rub and sauce recipes. After four years of thinking to myself, "can I justify $19 to buy a recipe???" I decided to bite the bullet and press the 'submit' button. So glad I did because it's the best low-salt rub I've ever had. Well worth the price.
I'm really glad to see such an great community here on SMF, which I believe is the largest on-line smoking meat community in the country if not the world?!?
