Howdy...

As the title implies I'm very new at this smoking buisness.
In the warm months I become the household outdoor cook, you know the "I'm not heating up the kitchen" thing.

I do ok but, while steaks and burgers are ok, it gets old and I was looking for something else / better. Then I ran across Smoking-Meat.com !

I have a char-broil electric and have had mixed results. I have much to learn!!!! From the little I've looked around, this forum seems to be just what I was looking for.

Welcome JohnT. If you're looking learn new things to create on the smoker then you've come to the right place. Lots of good people hear who cook up some unique food. I've learned a ton since I joined. Good luck and dont forget the pics.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
The few min's I've looked around here I've already learned quite a few things.

1. I use TOO much wood
2. If I get serious about smoking I'll probably need a better smoker

I've seen references to reviews of smokers on the forum, but can't seem to find them??

Congrats for joining the best site available! I have the same brand electric smoker and it seems to work O.K. I'm still new to this but my goal is to get the GOSM once I get better.

Good luck

Welcome from Moline, Illinois

I was right in your spot last year. Got sick and tired of cooking burgers and hot dogs on the 4th of July. I was the poor sap who had to cook all of it while everyone else ate. So last year I smoked four 7 pound pork shoulders in a Wal-mart type propane smoker.

Served pulled pork BBQ to 40 people and did not even break a sweat.

Smoking is the way to go!

Yesterday I ditched the electric and got a GOSM and seasoned it up.

I'm looking for something easy for the first smoke today, maybe a couple whole chickens?
