Looking for a side dish other than bean or Mac and cheese. Looking for something unique
What's your main coarse gonna be ?
Killing entire farm chicken pig and cow. Cabbage just not my cup of tea
I'll second that what's your main dish?
Slaw, tater salad, ABTS, wilted spinach salad, stuffed smoker roasted tomatoes, fruit salad, corn salad.
Smashed taters, broccoli Hmmmm roasted corn on the cob. Deep fried corn on the cob
I'm looking for something out of the box. So people are like wow
I know you said no to M&C but what about smoked Mac & Cheese.
i can recommend smoked sweet taters on cedar planks...
they were pretty amazing the first time so i replicated them and scooped them all out and put in a dish for Easter.
it packed a wow effect.
the smoke from cedar mixed with hickory was awsome flavor for sweet tator.
I smoked them for a about 6-8 hours , last two hours they were split and glazed with butter, roasted pecan syrup and my bbq rub.
when you glaze them be sure to slop extra on there and it drips down over the skin and the plank catches it.... turns the skin into candy.
here was picture from first time i did the tators, i have yet to upload the picture where i scooped them all out and put in dish.(but i did about 10 taters like below on the right)
however i recommend if you scoop em out to no glaze until in new dish. then put back in smoker so you get a nice top crust.
You want them to say "WOW"? Try grilling fruit .......
Pineapple brushed with brown sugar, vanilla and a touch of cinnamon

Cantaloupe brushed with brown sugar, vanilla and a little dark rum, can add a little butter extract too
I usually brush them several times over the course of an afternoon to let the good stuff soak in.
I love all of these but the cantaloupe is my favorite. You can eat these as real good sides or slap on some whipped cream and make them desserts.
Frog I've never added the vanilla and cinnamon I've always just done brown sugar thank you
If you don't want corn on the cob I always go with green beans ,baby lima beans and new potatoes with onions dices up in them cooked all together. My wife prefers to use Lipton onion soup mix "dry' instead of onions. This has always been my go to side when I just cant think of anything else.
Maybe as a counterpoint to hot and smoky, consider cool as a cucumber - cucumbers, dill, and salt in a sour cream/plain yogurt dressing.
