Hello - My husband and I received a Traeger pellet grill/smoker from the kids for Christmas! We're so excited to become proficient at smoking and grilling on it. Our son has had a Traeger for a couple of years and he's fixed some wonderful meals including pork, chicken, and all kinds of vegetables. His brisket and chicken shish kabobs are especially yummy. As for the hubs and me, we are very close to retirement age and we live in southern Utah. From where we live, you can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon if you have that desire. It's the best of all worlds, in our humble opinion. We've always been an active family, we love to hike, camp out, hunt, fish, and go boating. Lake Powell is just a couple of hours away and it's our favorite getaway during the hot summer months. We have grandchildren who love Grandpa's grilling, so he's "chomping at the bit" to learn new skills on the Traeger. We tried whole chickens a couple of nights ago, and although they were good, they were just okay. We used a bit of olive oil and the Traeger chicken rub under the skins. All the flavor seemed to be on the skin and the meat was just, well, like chicken. Today we're going to try baby back pork ribs. It's New Year's Eve and it's just the two of us so we bought a single rack. I've already removed the back membrane and will start the smoking right away. I'll let you know how it goes. Any advice for newbies is very welcome. Thanks for providing this forum so we can learn new things!
