Hey Gang. Green as can be at this smoking thing so came here to learn .... Boy what a great resource! Bought a used smoker at a yard sale. Had no idea what I was getting. Turned out to be a Brinkmann verticle propane fired. Researched on SMF. Looks like I got one of the HD models sold by HD and now discontinued....model 810-5534-S. Complete except for chimney and hose hanger which I bought from Brinkmann. This was definitely used and still had some chips in the pan. I cleaned up the outside, grates and grate hangers, both pans and removed the "gunk" that had accumulated on the bottom around the burner. Tested with propane an saw that the burner was working properly. Additional reading on the forums convinced me to send for a felt gasket fron Green Egg which I installed around the upper door frame. I've purchased a roll of the Refectix to insulate the outside as described in the Mod forum. Studying now about the modifications with smoke pans, sand/pebbles in the water pan, and, most interesting, the needle valve addition. Yet to smoke anything though. Maybe this weekend. Wife is reluctant so it'll need to be something good. Will let you all know.
