Greetings to ya'll from (dryside) WA state!

Briefly, I am mid 30's, married to a wonderful wife, and a father of one darling daughter and am new to smoking.

I have (somewhat) mastered the art of grilling, but desired to make my own Q. REAL Q. The reasons are many, but the final straw was when not too long ago my workplace was offering a smoker for a prize. I did not win it, but I still wanted to explore new cooking heights, and after searching for a smoker to get started I stumbled upon this site.

I settled on a Cabelas (Masterbuilt) 7 in 1 smoker, which I will offer a review of later. Last week I made my first foray into smoking (ribs) and will post such with Q View as well!

In closing, I would like to thank (in no particular order) Jeff, the professionals here who offer their wisdom, and to those, who like myself, without experience, have asked questions for situations like I currently face.

Thanks for the replies. I am definitely glad to be here. In the short time that I've found this forum and up to the point of joining, I've discovered a wealth of info that made it less intimidating to turn fresh meat into a successful dinner.

As I stated in my first post, I can grill, and truthfully theres not much of a challenge cooking with propane. My grill will still serve a purpose, but for now its time to hone new skills, and believe me, I will be asking questions!

Funny thing I've noticed as well, is how people react to news of a smoker. Tell someone ya got a new grill, and you might get a pat on the back. Mention you got a new smoker and you've got no shortage of folks wanting to do dinner! Indeed, when doing my first smoke my neighbor took an interest in the smoker and asked what was on it. Ribs, says I. Pork? counters he. Yes sir! The look on his face with his offer to send a rack over confirmed that BBQ just brings folks together in ways a grill simply cannot.
