Hello. I'm new to the forum and as well as smoking. Looking into getting a smoker this weekend. Probably a Bradley for now and hopefully upgrading in the future. Live and work in Manitoba canada. Have a degree in turf management and been in the Golfcourse industry for 17 years.
First question would be how well do smokers work in -40 weather. Also a recipe for a raw pork cure/brine for prior to smoking??

Good evening and welcome to the forum, from a rainy and cool day in East Texas. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

I own a masterbuilt and it has an insulated cooking chamber much like the Bradley has.  I've smoked in -20, but never -40.  I store my smoker outside and at those cold temps my controller will not work unless I warm it up.  I just bring the controller inside.  Once it's warm I can plug it back in and it works just fine for as long as I need it to.

Like I said before, I've never smoked in -40, but that's my experience at -20 with a MES in snowy Minnesota and Iowa.

Ditch,
Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ/smoke/brine/cure/inject. Well you get the picture if you can do it to something you put on a plate to eat then someone here has probably done it then smoked it. Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with their opinion on the subject.

Here is a link to a brine alot of people here use:

Always remember the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask!!
