    Hi Everybody,

I'm new to the site. Been smoking for about 6 months with some success. I do need some advise. I am using a cheap smoker, the charbroil cb600x. My wife would not let me spend the money on a better smoker until I had use a cheap one for at least a year. I don't fault her for that but now I'm somewhat frustrated with the smoker. Up till now I have not been able to consistently get the smoker to hold at 225*. It would usually be at 200 with the setting on high for the propane. I then ordered and installed a nomex door gasket. Now I can't get the smoker below 300* on the low setting. Could I use something like JBWeld to close up some of the burner holes ( maybe a quarter of them) to give off less heat? Or do I remove some of the gasket?

I know the easiest answer would answer would be to get a high quality smoker!  Won't be able to talk the wife into that for a while. I'll just keep enjoying the website and trying the different recipes.

    Thanks for any suggestions,

    Brian J. Huth D.C.
  2. Welcome to the site.  One way to control temps on a gas smoker is to install a needle valve.  I've never done it, but if you type needle valve into the search bar up top, you'll get some more info.  Hope this helps.

  5. [IMG]   Good morning and welcome to the forum, from another cloudy and soggy day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.
